Six Months Old!

Karis is 6 months old! That is halfway to a year! Six months of my pregnancy with her seemed liked it dragged on but 6 months of her here has flown by so quickly. Just like they say, "Don't Blink" or you will miss out! She is the sweetest baby around...I love her so much and am so blessed she is my daughter.

At 6 months she is doing so well and is at such a fun and interactive age. It truly is astounding just how much they grow, develop, change and learn in such a short time. To answer some questions people tend to ask at this age:

No, she is not crawling. She is not even close. Since she still refuses to be on her tummy for more than 60 seconds she is not able to go on her  hands and knees yet. She does sit like a pro (started sitting at 4.5 months!) and is starting to lean onto her hands while sitting and lift her butt in the air. I think that is how she is going to begin to crawl/be mobile-not from tummy time!

No, she does not have any teeth. Even though Niagra Falls has taken up residence in her mouth the past 3 months she still just has a slobbery, gummy smile!  She is also constantly putting something, anything, in her mouth which could be teething or could be just that this behavior is typical development at this age!

And no, she is not eating solids yet.  I am proud to say I met one of my own goals as well as the recommendations by AAP and WHO to exclusively breastfeed for the first 6 months! We are doing Baby Led Weaning to introduce her to solids. We have given her avocado and sweet potato but so far all she does is mash and smash it all round in her fingers and on the table. It is quite funny! I am not at all concerned about her not ingesting any "real" food...breastmilk is their main nutrition source for the first year of life , anything else is just fun, learning, experimentation , etc. She will eat it when she is ready :) In the meantime, Samson will be enjoying cleaning up all the messes she makes.

Her well check for 6 months went well. The Dr is happy with her development, thinks she is really interactive and aware for her age, and says her growth is doing great(even though her weight dropped down on the curve). She sits up wonderfully, has her moments of talking where she can say da da, ma ma, ba ba, etc, loves to laugh (especially at the doggie!), and can stand while leaning against something (although still really wobbly). Her hand-eye coordination is getting really precise, she loves when we read her books, she is starting to understand the sign for milk, and gets excited when I put the Ergo on. Karis is soooo much fun and I am looking forward to the next few months!

Six month stats :
Height: 27.5 inches, 96%
Weight: 16.5 pounds, 60%
Head circ: 17.25 inches, 84%

Looks like she is becoming tall and skinny just like her daddy! :)

  1. she's getting so big! I thought one of those pics was of a baby doll, but I guess she's just that perfect! Love the raspberries. Way to go on waiting till 6 months.. I haven't figured out why anyone would want to start solids earlier, personally! I read about BLW, it sounded interesting, but Chad is way too much of a neat freak for that to work for us ;) Henry has really seemed to enjoy food from a spoon though, so it's worked out.
